Covert Affairs - Sound and Vision

Annie (Piper Perabo) and Auggie (Christopher Gorham) are pulled off their respected new assignments and sent to Barcelona to pose as potential buyers for a computer virus by an anonymous hacker known only as Red Rover. Auggie has done extensive research on Red Rover, and if they can aquire the virus it would allow the CIA to reverse engineer and protect themselves from a future attack, but that's not the real reason why the pair was chosen for the assignment.

Not appreciating her department being so thorougly culled, Joan (Kari Matchett) pulls back Auggie and Annie to send a message to both Arthur (Peter Gallagher) and Lena (Sarah Clarke) that's she's not giving up her people without a fight. Neither is pleased by Joan's actions (even if they end up producing great results) and Arthur's got bigger issues on his plate including a visit to prison to talk with Henry Wilcox (Gregory Itzin) about the death of his son.

The drop goes perfectly and the pair are able to make off with a copy of the virus, however, the Canadian buyers whose place Annie and Auggie took (who were being held in two separate secure facilities) both turn up dead. On a run from another hit squad Annie has to choose saving Auggie's life over securing of the package. Out of options and ordered home Auggie comes up with one last desperate play to find Red Rover (Ana Claudia Talancón) and prove to both Joan and himself he can still work in the field.

The episode gives us quite a bit including giving us a glimpse at the longstanding rivalry between Joan and Lena, getting Auggie back in the field, introducing a new character in Pilar I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more of in the future, and letting Auggie drop his own bombshell by announcing to Annie his plans to propose to Parker (Devin Kelley). It's great to see Gorham and Perabo together for extended scenes and Perabo does a terrific job in portraying Annie's mix of heartbreak and happiness at the good news her best friend chooses to share with her.
