Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. - A Hen in the Wolfhouse

Stuck in a no-win situation, Raina (Ruth Negga) attempts to appeal first to Skye's father (Kyle MacLachlan) and then to Coulson (Clark Gregg) in order to retrieve the obelisk before Daniel Whitehall (Reed Diamond) makes good on his threats. Jeopardizing Simmons' (Elizabeth Henstridge) undercover mission as a scientist for HYDRA, Raina hopes to force Coulson's hand and tempt Skye (Chloe Bennet) into meeting the man she has been searching for her entire life. Luckily for Simmons, S.H.I.E.L.D.'s new director has a plan-B.

Returning Simmons to the S.H.I.E.L.D. team, "A Hen in the Wolfhouse" also introduces Adrianne Palicki as Bobbi "Mockingbird" Morse as a highly-skilled undercover operative who gets the scientist out alive and adds some much-needed firepower to the new S.H.I.E.L.D.'s limited resources. The ease which Skye falls in and out of love with meeting her father almost gave me whiplash, as did he man's own violent mood swings which I'm guessing won't be explained for quite some time. However the fallout of both situations does introduce the killer to a new set of friends putting Coulson's team at even greater risk.

With the tease of any revelation about Skye's past left unfulfilled, Bobbi's introduction is the main takeaway from the episode. Despite her brunette hair in this episode (explained in a single line of dialogue) Marvel has released pics of Mockingbird in full gear showcasing the addition of another asset to what is shaping up to be a formidable strike team given May's (Ming-Na Wen) inherent bad-assery and Skye's progress as a field agent. The choice to make Bobbi into Hunter's (Nick Blood) ex-wife is a bit goofy but does lay the foundation of her experience with other members of the team (and increase the man's somewhat perplexing standing as the team's ladies' man).
