Supergirl - Survivors

Roulette (Dichen Lachman) wouldn't have been a character I would immeadiately expect to see on Supergirl, but the show makes good use of owner for the underground fight club for aliens and heroes in "Survivors." Not only does it give Supergirl a different kind of villain to face-off against (smart and well-connected), but the underground fight club also offers plenty of action. The episode takes its name from J'onn's (Miss Martian (Sharon Leal), and to a lesser extent Kara (Melissa Benoist) admitting what she has in common with Mon-El (Chris Wood).

Although rushed in spots, the episode works well by expanding the season's themes of aliens and their roles on Earth and how some humans can take advantage of the powerful refugees (and the limits of how the law may protect them). True to her comic origins, Miss Martian does harbor a secret she wishes to keep from the only other Martian survivor (we'll have to see how long this lasts). After seeing her in action, I can't wait to see a Miss Martian/Supergirl team-up. And while providing most of the episode's humorous moments, Mon-El hanging out with Winn (Jeremy Jordan) does double-duty by explaining the alien's power set in contrast to that of Kara in an understated way. Meanwhile, the show also continues to not-so-subtly tease Alex's (Chyler Leigh) new infatuation. The subplot gives us the humorous moment of Supergirl being completely ignored by the two women at a crime scene and continues to give Alex a storyline of her own to explore.
