Arrow - Human Target

"Human Target" ends the Tobias Church (Chad L. Coleman) storyline, kills Oliver (Stephen Amell), puts Diggle (David Ramsey) back into the field, and foreshadows trouble for our Mayor as the season's favorite snarky reporter (Carly Pope) is given a clue about Oliver's secret life in Russia. Of course Oliver isn't actually killed in the episode, but his public shooting does allow the team to lull their adversary into a sense of false security, discover Church's endgame, and then make a few plans of their own.

The first-half of the episode is geared towards the team searching for the missing Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez). Eventually Oliver and company find their missing member, but not before torture forces him to reveal the Green Arrow's true identity to Tobias Church. Thankfully for the Mayor, he has an ace up his sleeve as he calls in Christopher Chance (Wil Traval) to help fake his demise giving his team the time needed to take Church down once and for all. Traval isn't a bad choice for the character, but I would have loved Arrow to make a call-back Mark Valley to reprise his role from the all-too-short-lived television series.

The loss of Church elevates Prometheus to the season's main villain while still leaving quite a bit about Oliver's time in Russia to be explored. Diggle and Rene are given some nice bonding time (which is good because Wild Dog has spent most of his time on-screen rubbing everyone else the wrong way). As for the Mayor, Ollie gets some big victories this episode (even if he has to fake his death). The death of Church was easy to see coming given the villain's warning and needing the character to take Ollie's secret to his grave. As for just what Prometheus as planned for the Green Arrow, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
