The Umbrella Academy - The Frankel Footage

The second episode of The Umbrella Academy's Second Season continues Five's (Aidan Gallagher) attempt to prevent the end of the world (again). Five has a bit more success with winning Diego (David Castañeda) over to his side a second time, although the pair are carrying around some extra weight with the local conspiracy nut (Kevin Rankin) Five encountered upon his arrival and the crazy woman (Ritu Arya) who broke out of the psychiatric institution with Diego. The episode gets its name from the present Hazel (Cameron Britton) left behind which turns out to be footage of the day JFK is killed and includes an unexpected appearance by Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore). Is their father involved in the death of Kennedy? And, if so, how and why? The pair's attempt to confront their father, years before either of them have been born, ends poorly (although it does allow for an appearance by a younger version of Pogo).

"The Frankel Footage" also confirms that the odd trio we saw in the first episode are agents of the Temps Commission and catches us up with the Handler (Kate Walsh) who returns to work after nearly dying only to be demoted and reassigned. Luther's (Tom Hopper) encounter with Vanya (Ellen Page), who doesn't remember her brother or her life before this time period, allows him some catharsis and may have been the first domino to knock over breaking through his sister's amnesia. The writers have fun here with the coincidence of Klaus (Robert Sheehan) running into Raymond Chestnut (Yusuf Gatewood) in jail while both remain unaware of the other's connection to Alison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) as another couple pieces of the puzzle move closer together as the clock to Armageddon continues to count down.
