Once Upon a Time - A Tale of Two Sisters

While Regina (Lana Parrilla) is tempted down a dark path dealing with Emma's (Jennifer Morrison) choice to bring Robin's (Sean Maguire) long-lost wife back in time with her from the past, the rest of Storybrooke has to deal with the other unforeseen consequence of Emma and Hook's time-travel when Storybrooke gets a new visitor. Although Regina's tale takes up a good portion of the season premiere, most of "A Tale of Two Sisters" deals with Elsa's (Georgina Haig) arrival in Storybrooke and the flashbacks with the Ice Queen and her sister Anna (Elizabeth Lail) explaining why Elsa walked through the door which Emma opened.

An ongoing plot of the show is villains dealing with fighting their own nature to become worthy of the affection from those who love them. Regina's strength is tested with Marian's (Christie Laing) arrival and the end of the Evil Queen's romance with Robin. First choosing to release Sidney (Giancarlo Esposito) with plans to kill Marian, Regina formulates a new plan to earn her own happy ending by enlisting her magic mirror's help in tracking down the person responsible for creating the book and writing the city's magical tales. In much the same way Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle) struggles with being Belle's (Emilie de Ravin) husband while turning over the real dagger to his bride and discovering a new power which may be too inciting to resist.

Once Upon a Time makes good use of the Frozen sisters while offering an unexpected magical cameo from another Disney movie. Haig and Lail are well cast in bringing the animated characters to life and the episode shows that this version of Elsa still has trouble controlling her powers when she feels threatened (causing her to create a passable CGI snow monster) leaving to the kinds of misunderstandings that may take a while to sort out. As Regina searches for a way to cheat fate and change her destiny the subplot involving Anna and Elsa should be fun to see unfold, especially once the inhabitants of Storybrooke discover the identity of their newest arrival.
