The search for the mysterious Author continues in an episode that features a pair of storylines involving Ursula (Merrin Dungey) and her connection to Hook (Colin O’Donoghue). While the flashbacks focus on the pair's previous meeting and Ursula loosing her most precious gift, the present day storyline centers on Hook attempting to make amends for his previous actions and, in so doing, learning just what Ursula, Cruella De Vil (Victoria Smurfit), Maleficent (Kristin Bauer van Straten), and Rumpelstiltskin (Robert Carlyle) are truly after.
Along with giving us Ernie Hudson as Poseidon, Ursula's storyline also offers a cameo of JoAnna Garcia Swisher as Ariel in mostly an ex-machina role showing up just in time to save Hook and provide the necessary plot twist to offer Ursula everything she's ever wanted. The sea witch makes good on her promise informing just how Gold's plans hinge on Emma (Jennifer Morrison) and turning the town's savior into a villain like the rest of them.
The villains' torture of August (Eion Bailey) reveals the importance of the page he removed from the book involving a door that holds the secrets to everything the villains are after. Thankfully, even with his nose growing with each lie, August is able to hide the true importance of the page. The true hiding place of the Author may not be the only secret to be revealed as next week's episode tease the full story behind the loss of Maleficent's baby and just what actions Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and David (Josh Dallas) took to protect their child.
