Lucifer - The Good, the Bad and the Crispy

Lucifer's Second Season finale wraps up Mum's (Tricia Helfer) storyline which was first teased way back in the First Season finale. While Chloe (Lauren German) begins investigating a murder caused by Lucifer's (Tom Ellis) mother, the devil spends most of the episode trying to find and convince Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside) to restore the sword and push dear old Mum back into Heaven to be their father's problem. Trouble is, now that Amenadiel knows Lucifer isn't necessarily God's favorite son he's less inclined to help. While this is really just an excuse to draw out an important plot point, it does eventually serve a secondary purpose in the angel finding a way back to something he lost along the way.

Everybody gets a little time to shine here including Dr. Linda (Rachael Harris) who proves to be a focal point in the increasing dysfunction between Lucifer and his family. Once again the psychologist's words may not reach her client immediately, but Lucifer eventually takes them to heart finding an alternative option for his mother. It's a nice little twist that also offers the added benefit of keeping a thoroughly confused Charlotte Richards around to potentially be a problem sometime next season. Amenadiel gets his big hero moment and we get to see a softer side of Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) both in her concern for the doctor and in her willingness to play with Trixie (Scarlett Estevez). And Amenadiel's return to improv is worth a chuckle or to as well.

While the episode's final scene likely prevents any revelations between Lucifer and his partner, at least in the near future, it does offer another unexpected twist. Left in the dessert for dead, Lucifer discovers something thought lost has been returned to him. While I don't think this will be a reason to push the devil back to Heaven or Hell, I do wonder what the return of his wings mean for the fallen angel and he's work on Earth.
