Person of Interest - Reasonable Doubt

After saving a veterinarian (Jennifer Ikeda) with the help of Bear, Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson) turn their attention to a former prosecutor (Kathleen Rose Perkins) charged with the murder of her husband (Daniel Cosgrove) at sea (even though the body has yet to be recovered). After slipping police custody by trading places with her defense attorney (Jennifer Restivo) their latest number goes on the run. Finch calls on Shaw's (Sarah Shahi) help to retrace the deceptive moves of the lawyer, still not knowing whether The Machine gave them the woman's number to save her or help take her down before she does harm to someone else.

Proclaiming her innocence, and hunted by a police detective (Paul Ben-Victor) with a personal vendetta, the lawyer's bizarre behavior makes her hard to track or predict as she borrows a kilo of cocaine from a drug dealer (Treach), jumps off a roof, sends the police on false leads, and plants evidence on the prosecution's star witness to ruin his reputation. To get the skinny on the true story, Shaw infiltrates the woman's book club and discovers her best friend (Annika Boras) was sleeping with the missing and presumed dead husband who Fusco (Kevin Chapman) discovers owed a mobster $5,000,000 at the time of his mysterious death.

With the complicated mystery getting no easier to solve, Reese kidnaps the fugitive and Finch offers the former prosecutor a chance to plead her case to Reese, Carter (Taraji P. Henson), and Finch before they consider turning her over to the cop who wants her dead. After discovering the husband is still alive and framed her for his own murder, the trio of judges decide to let the woman go. However, the twistiest episode of Person of Interest still has one twist still left. Tired of being played, and realizing the situation has no true victim, Reese comes up with his own solution to the convoluted affair.

The constantly changing mystery is one of the show's best, and if Reese's solution seems a bit harsh it's hard not to argue that circumstances demanded it (and he was far more lenient than Shaw would have been). While part of the manhunt Carter's new partner (Brian Wiles) sees her talking with Reese. Although the detective is able to talk her way out of any potential problem, the reveal that the young officer is spying on his partner for Detective Terney (Al Sapienza) spells trouble for Carter going forward.
