While the Jeffersonian squints deal with a confounding body found in a suburban marsh, which only begins to make sense once they discover that the woman's body had been cryogenically frozen for months before her body was dumped, Cam (Tamara Taylor) and Vaziri's (Pej Vahdat) relationship goes through a rough patch with the arrival of his disapproving parents (Pej Vahdat, Braeden Marcott) with whom Arastoo has never gotten along.
While working the FBI side of the case, Booth (David Boreanaz) is distracted by the extra workload of being asked by the Deputy Director to double-check several other agents current cases. When Sweets (John Francis Daley) is asked for a psychological evaluation of his friend it becomes apparent that Bones' (Emily Deschanel) belief that her husband is being tapped for promotion is likely correct.
While whittling through suspects that include the woman's ex-husband and two competing cryogenic research groups, the FBI eventually find their killer. As for Booth's possible promotion which would likely be a posting in Germany, despite Bones' total support and willingness to relocate with him, Sealy's suspicions about why he's been tapped for the job and what the assignment could mean (including returning to field duty as a sniper) brings the FBI agent no joy at the possibility.
After offering the cliched restaurant family fight the Cam/Vaziri ends with a warm-hearted twist. Booth's reasoning for shunning any interest in a possible promotion plays on longstanding themes of the show surrounding his character's shame for some of his military service. The mere prospect of having to return to any part of life brings the agent immediate discomfort likely setting up friction between Booth and the FBI in the season's final three episodes.
