Hawaii Five-0 - Ho'i Hou

Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim) and Jerry's (Jorge Garcia) high school reunion turns deadly in Hawaii Five-0's "fan episode" where several elements of the murder of the week were voted on by the show's fans include the unusual "death by stiletto." Learning that the victim had never returned to the island after graduation until the day she died, which also included a trip to the bank to withdraw $200,000 to anonymously pay for the surgery of a woman she had never met just hours before her murder.

McGarrett‘s (Alex O’Loughlin) and Danny (Scott Caan) return from Cambodia after failing to discover what was buried at the coordinates left by McGarrett's father which Jerry found on the toolbox. While having Max (Masi Oka) look into the little foresnic evidence they brought back with them, the pair join the case beginning looking into a low-rent magician (Rob Corddry). After the victim's high school boyfriend (Peter Shinkoda) is attacked as well, Chin and Kono (Grace Park) tie both the victim and her boyfriend to a presumed dead surfer who went missing 25 years go (and whose mother received the money for her surgery).

The clue to both the missing surfer and the murdered woman lead the pair to their killers (Mackenzie Astin, Shinkoda) and the item hidden in the unearthed time capsule which would have sent them both to prison. As for McGarrett, he watches someone remove all avenues of answers just as the Navy SEAL was beginning to ask the right questions leaving Five-0's commander right back where he started.

I'm always happy to see Jerry return, and tying in his connection to the victim gave him an added stake in helping to find the killer. The round-about conspiracy involving the two deaths was a little more complicated than it needed to be, although to be fair I'm not sure if that's an issue with the writers or the episode's format that had to fit in various elements voted on by fans into the overall arc of the story. Given Jerry's involvement I think it works better than last season's attempt to have fans chose the killer, but I would be perfectly happy if the show would stay away from similar stunts in the future.
