"Blurred Lines" continues the plot thread of J'onn (David Harewood) discovering more about his brother, this week with the help of Nia (Nicole Maines) who helps uncover the reason for the gaps in J'onn's memory and the hatred of Malefic. Malefic also takes the opportunity to use humanity's latest invention to his advantage and recover the use of his full powers as the episodes cements the character as the major pre-Crisis threat for our heroes. The episode is also notable for Lena (Katie McGrath) using her friendship, and Kara's (Melissa Benoist) guilt, to play on favor that looks like its quickly leading her down a dark path well traveled by her brother.
Other plot lines involve a tattooed assassin (which gets so little screentime it is almost not worth mentioning), Kara correctly guessing that her new character has shady motives, The Daily Planet becoming more like Buzz Feed with every passing episode, and the oh-so-cute romantic problems of Brainiac-5 (Jesse Rath) and Nia. Of these the assassin provides some diversion, but the rest (including the Planet's major changes, which seem ripe for the show to dig into) fail to impress while Lena's long-term plans and Malefic's present threat (which leads to not one but two supporting characters seemingly being written off the show for the short-term) overshadow the various minor character dramas as the show feels like its treading water and biding time leading into the upcoming Crisis.
