Psych - A Touch of Sweevil

After being denied entry to paranormal consultant convention for years, Shawn (James Roday) is ecstatic to finally have made the cut, but when the host drops dead midway through introductions Lassiter‘s (Timothy Omundson) seizes the opportunity to use Shawn and Gus (Dulé Hill), along with a witch (Yvette Nicole Brown) and ghost whisperer (Tom Arnold) to try and drive his new head detective out of the SBPD.

Shaw and Gus do a rather quality job of ratcheting their usual level of chicanery to an 11. With the unintentional help of the other paranormal consultants and a gleeful Lassie egging them all on, they continue to confuse the bewildered Betsy Brannigan (Sorvino). Eventually Shawn attempts to gather the other experts and solve what is now a series of three murderers and discovers one of them is their killer.

"A Touch of Sweevil" isn't a great mystery, but by creating a story where Lassiter not only supports but encourages Shawn and Gus' insanity we get scenes of Lassie getting to enjoy the pair's shenanigans for the first time in the show's eight-year run (and that's pretty damn fun). Although Shawn and Gus do an admirable job in ratcheting up the craziness it's not enough to get Brannigan to quit as she embraces the oddball group as her new home. The good news for Lassiter is his new head detective's craziness is a perfect match for his own.
