Wander Over Yonder - The Hero

Putting a crazy Wander Over Yonder-spin on the classic princess fairy tale, "The Hero" finds both Wander (Jack McBrayer) and Sylvia (April Winchell) recruited by Sir Brad Starlight (James Marsden), in roles of sidekick and trusted steed, to save Princess Demurra from the clutches of the evil Dragon King Drakor. Trying to stay true to what is written, Starlight is often short-tempered with Wander's antics (especially as the knight's freshly-hired wacky comic relief shows more skill and good sense than our "hero").

Eventually Wander and Sylvia make it through the Labyrinth of Delusion to the castle only discover the princess is anything but a prisoner and those fated written words Starlight has led them by are nothing more than the scribblings of his high school journal. Demurra is actually in love with Drakor and doesn't need Starlight or anyone else rescuing her from her impending marriage.

Playing on various traditional Disney Princess themes, "The Hero" has several nice touches including the sword in the stone and my favorite - the surrounding bright light and animal friends who surround Princess Demurra whenever she appears on-screen. I also enjoyed the fact that after Wander and Sylvia accidentally help their hero get his hands on the princess she doesn't need their help, or that of the army of her husband-to-be, as she proves perfectly capable of dealing with the situation all by herself.
