Marvel's Agent Carter - SNAFU

With next week being the season finale and last week seeing Peggy (Hayley Atwell) discovered and arrested by her own colleagues "SNAFU" is the episode everything has been leading up to... with, as we come to expect, mixed results. Peggy's guilt or innocence is eventually sussed out through a convoluted hour where Dr. Ivchenko (Ralph Brown) lays his hands on the Stark invention Leviathan is so enamored with and the SSR team suffers another loss. Once again Peggy's colleagues blindly stub their toes for most of the episode believing her to be a traitor in league with Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper) which actually seems far more plausible than her list of actions over the course of the previous six episodes.

Peggy's innocence isn't proven by any action of her own or argument of the facts. She isn't exonerated by any realization by her male-chauvinist team. No, the series turns on the actions of the villains whose very public, and completely unnecessary, attack on the SSR proves to be the only thing that convinces Peggy's colleagues that her ridiculous story is the truth. In other words had Leviathan simply waited a few more hours, snuck the invention out of the SSR under everyones' noses while Peggy was questioned, and went about their business they would have never been discovered and Peggy may have already been shot as a traitor to the good ol' U.S. of A.

By the end of the episode the SSR's nose is bloodied as they suffer another loss, Peggy is kinda reinstated (even though her actions should probably earn her at least a suspension if not a lengthy jail term), and Ivchenko tests out the Stark invention in a crowded theater foreshadowing the threat which needs to be neutralized in next week's finale. Even though I've enjoyed Atwell reprising her character the show itself has often been a disappointment and next week may be its final chance to sell me on the possibility of it ever becoming anything more.
